Welcome to Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dantewada!
KVK, Dantewada was established on 23rd December 2005.
The district having dense forest cover of about 79 % of the total geographical area. The district comprises of 78 % tribal population. Major crops of the district are minor millets, kulthi, urd, moong, maize, niger and rice in kharif season and 97 % area under rainfed. The irrigation percent of the district is only 2%. The cropping intensity is very low viz. 101 % due to lack of irrigation facilities. The fertilizer consumption in the district is only 1.7 kg NPK/ha. The average annual rainfall of the district is 1392 mm with an average of 94 rainy days.

  Activities

1. Assessment, refinement and demonstration of technology/ methodology/products.
2. Collaborate with the State Agricultural University/ Scientist of the Regional Research Station (Saheed Gundadhur Agriculture College and Research Station, Jagadlpur), the state extension personnel in "On-farming testing", refining and documenting the technologies for developing region specific sustainable land use systems.
3. Organize trainings to update the extension personnel within the area of operation with emerging advances in agricultural research on regular basis.
4. Organize long-term vocational training courses in agriculture and allied vocations for the rural youths with emphasis on "learning by doing " for generating self-employment through institutional financing.
5. Organize front-line demonstrations in various crops to generate production data and feedback information


Activities

1. On farm testing to identify the location specificity of technologies in various farming systems
2. Frontline demonstrations to establish production potentials of newly released technologies on farmers’ fields and provide feedback.
3. Training of farmers and farmwomen to update their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies and training of extension personnel to orient them in the frontier areas of technology development.
4. Work as resources and knowledge centre of agricultural technology for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector for improving the agricultural economy of the district.
5. Create awareness about frontier technologies through large number of extension activities like Farmer fair, Field day, Strategic campaign, Ex-trainees meet, etc.
6. The seed and planting materials produce by the KVKs also be made available to the farmers.
